Through this feature, businesses can include product labels, including prices, on uploads in feeds, stories, and IGTV. The launch of this feature is part of Instagram's commitment to supporting MSMEs in adapting to digital transformation, and helping them to help drive Indonesia's digital economy.


When someone taps the label on the product upload or sticker, they will be directed to a product description page that contains the product image, description and price, and a link that leads directly to the business account website. After that, Instagram users can immediately buy the product in question on the website.


"We want to help the interaction between business people, creators and users is easily established. Therefore, we are releasing Instagram Shopping for all business accounts and creators in Indonesia, and the launch is carried out gradually," said Country Director of Facebook in Indonesia, Pieter Lydian, in a virtual Instagram Shopping launch event on Tuesday (6/10/2020).


Pieter explained that transactions that occur through this feature are not carried out on the Facebook or Instagram platforms. But on a live website belonging to a business or creator account.


"Transactions are not on the Facebook and Instagram platforms. However, the business owners are brought to their website," he said.


Terms of Use for Instagram Shopping


According to Pieter, his party is trying to ensure that this feature is not misused. This is done so that consumers are not deceived by fake accounts.


Business account owners and creators won't just be able to use the feature. The account concerned must connect the Instagram Shopping feature to the official website.

"We are updating our regulations regarding Instagram Shopping, which is to connect this feature to their own website. After that we will review it," explained Pieter.


He also emphasized that Instagram will continue to educate users about security. Users are encouraged to be actively aware of fraudulent accounts and it is important to know their track record. Such accounts usually change names frequently.


There is no minimum number of followers


Communication Manager for Instagram for Asia Pacific, Putri Silalahi, added that there are no requirements regarding the number of followers to be able to use the Instagram Shopping feature. This feature is present for business account owners, as well as creators.


"There is no minimum number of followers for this feature," he said.


Instagram Shopping can already be found on several business accounts in Indonesia, such as BLP Beauty and Men's Republic. The existence of Instagram Shopping can be identified by the shopping bag icon on the profile.


After clicking on the icon, the user will see a catalog containing the products and their prices.


Uploads in the feed with the Instagram Shopping feature are also marked with this icon. When the icon is clicked, the user will be presented with the same information.
